1. CHOREOGRAPH FOR THE MUSIC

Luam Keflezgy, Beyoncé’s go to girl and answerable for the killer moves seen in “Run the World” says music is the most important thing in movement. “Just kind of lose yourself in it because everybody has their own pocket, their own rhythm.”

2. BE PATIENT WITH THE PROCESS

Founder of km dance academy and troupe dancewear , Antoine Troupe reminds us that quality choreography doesn’t always come as quickly as we would like. “Be patient with the process”, he says. “Brilliance takes time”.

3. THINK ABOUT THE JOURNEY

It’s so easy to forget to think about the “journey” you want the audience to take with you and focus on the smaller movements too early on. “Don’t overlook the importance of building stamina”- Jawn ha.

4. TELL US A STORY

KPOP dance star Aggie Loyola’s tip is to “use dance as language”. Dance is always beautiful to watch when it tells a story. It doesn’t need to be obviously narrative but a feel of a journey to a destination is a lovely way to start choreography.

5. MAKE YOUR HITS STAND OUT

L.A based Choreographer Sorah Hang says it’s important to use energy in work to create a polished look. She says her best piece of advice is “make your hits stand out”. I think the pieces of dance you want to watch again and again are always the ones where there are some “oomph” moments with big movements.
